Sheila Shawl Extravaganza
Over 200 people gathered June 16 at the Weisman Art Musuem for the Sheila Shawl Extravaganza, an event co-hosted by the School of Social Work and the Silent Witness National Initiative, a Twin Cities domestic-violence prevention organization. The event featured both a live and silent auction of more than 40 exquisite, hand-knit shawls, created in honor of the late Sheila Wellstone’s commitment to ending domestic violence. The funds raised were split between Silent Witness and the Sheila Wellstone Fellowship in the School of Social Work. Attendees included Joan Mondale, artist and spouse of former U.S. vice president Walter Mondale; Joan Quie, former first lady of Minnesota; and Marcia Avner, former chief of staff for the late Senator Paul Wellstone.
